Sixty-Second Spring Dinner: Everyone is invited to attend the 62nd Annual Spring Dinner to be held at the Ox Yoke In Amana, Wednesday, April 14, 1999, starting with cocktails at 6:15 p.m. and dinner starting around 7:00 p.m. We will have a cash bar. A reminder that one meal Is free if you did not attend the Fall Banquet. If you bring a guest, the cost will be $16.00 per person. Please fill out the reservation card promptly and return it to Pinky Primrose.

Top Test Scores: The top Basketball Part 11 test score went to David Stamy with a 96. Brandon Beaudry, Marv Howsare, Charles Porter had a 95. followed by Ev Petersen with a 94. 9 officials had 90+, 15 officials scored 80+, 5 officials scored 70+.

A reminder to officials who did not take the test. We still have 8 officials who did not take the test!

Longevity Awards: The following officials will be recognized at the banquet for the longevity to CRAOA.

5 Years: Dan Colbert, Gordy Kennedy, Dave Stamy.
10 Years: Tim Dryml, Scoff Freuhling, Ron Peiffer, Rick Hersom, Jerry Kiwala, Boyd Severson.
25 Years: Ev Petersen

Social Security Number: The schools are requesting your social security #. Please send your number along on the update calendar! The IRS wants the schools to have this information.

Change Of Address: If you have moved, please inform me of your new address and phone number. The schools like to know your correct address. This saves them money and time In trying to get mail or phone calls to you.

A Reminder To Update The Secretary: We need to update for the 1999 football season. Enclosed you will find a 1999 & 00 update basketball sheet. Please fill It out and return as soon as possible.

Spring Meeting Of Membership: A reminder that the spring meeting will be held Monday, April 12, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. Washington High School, Room 116. It Is mandatory to attend one of the two meetings of the Association annually. If you cannot make it, submit a letter to the President stating your case.

Applying Members This Year: The membership will act upon the following officials during the up coming meeting. For full membership: Tracy Stone, Darby Washington. From Step I to Step II: Geoff Dumolien, Jason Gaskill, Josh Gordon, Jeff Hare, Gene King, Kenneth McNutt, Rich Morrin, Phil Ritchi, Chris Witgen. Transfers: Scott Behn, Eric Gilson. If you have information to share about any of the above, please come to the meeting for the discussion.

Several Basketball Officials Dropped Out of the Association: We lost several officials from the association. They are Don Ackerson (moved to Illinois); Chris Caldbeck military); Curt Dumolien (no reason); Corey Haars Bill Kramer (work); Gregg Machetta (moved); Charles Visek (college ball); Sam Martin (moved).

State Tournament Officials: Several officials from the area worked In the state basketball tournament playoffs. They are Rick Hersom, Don Holladay, Jack Jaspers, Jerry Kiwala, Paul Schuetz, Tom Yock, Randy Krejci, Ev Peterson, Jerry Winter. Congratulations to these officials!

Successful Season: Over 640 games were assigned in basketball this past season. We have had several officials miss their game assignments without getting a replacement. We must Improve on this part of our relationship with the schools. Please send back your contracts and send them a reminder card or call them about working a game at their school. This would really help the schools.

The Following Fees Will Be Paid Next Year: The following fees have been agreed upon with the Metro schools.

FOOTBALL:

5--football officials for soph games @ 27.50 each 4--officials for 9th football games @ 25.00 each 3--officials for 9th "B" games @ $25.00 each Middle school games (3 officials) @ $25.00 plus $4.00 for 5th Quarter, 10 min. straight through for 5th quarter) men & women basketball sophomore or JV @ $27.50 each JV doubleheader @ $45.00 each sophomore reserve @ $22.50 each 9th grade doubleheader @ $40.00 each (plus 2, 5th quarters) @ 45.00 each 9th grade single game @ $25.00 each

Middle School Games (3 officials) @ 25.00 plus $4.00 per for 5th quarter (10 min straight through for 5th quarter)

The Athletic Directors of the Metro Schools were very concemed about the number of changes that took place from the original assignment sheets. They also had concerns about the officials who failed to show at 9th grade or sophomore basketball games.

40 YEARS AGO: April 6, 1959 ... 33 members and guests met at the Sheraton-Montrose hotel for a buffet dinner. President Emil Klumpar called the meeting to order. John Millis was one of five officials who were presented for membership as fully accredited offlicals. Cap Hedges was ill and not in attendance. Gus Schrader gave an interesting talk on "Letters to the Sports Editor". The Meeting was adjourned in favor of a highly-enjoyed game of Hideo, or 'Blind Mans Bluff".

36 YEARS AGO: April 6, 1964 ... Met at Tony's Steak House. Bill Quinby called meeting to order in absence of President Ray Hamad, who was ill. Thirty-eight members and guests were present. Bob Tvrdik chaired the new officials committee. Jim Schneekloth and Jack Stone were approved to full membership. Len Benhart was nominated as new President and Bob Vrbicek as vice-president. Bill Quinby was permanent secretary. Dues were increased from $3.00 to $4.00.

30 YEARS AGO: Monday, March 24 at the Ronneburg Restaurant in Amana... Mr. Brousard was President ... Mr. Spier announced that the entire cost of the evening's dinner would be picked up by the association. The treasurer's report showed a balance of $125.00 with all bills paid. Full approval to Rich Koolbeck, Dennis Goettel, Robert Pohlman and Kenneth Lee. Lloyd Spier was elected President and Bud Paulsen vice-president, Jack Stone as permanent Secretary. A little session on card playing ended the meeting.

25 YEARS AGO: April 16, 1974 .... President Bill Yeisley called the meeting to order ...Evaluation of New Officials caused a lengthy discussion. Full membership to Randy Krejci, Larry Albers, Fran Chihak and Ev Yockey. Officers elected, Jack Christianson, President, Bill Quinby, VicePresident, John Lowry, Treasurer and Pinky Primrose permanent Secretary. It was moved by Howsare and seconded by Tom Singer that a classification system be adopted for a trial period of one year. Motion carried.

20 YEARS AGO: March 26, 1979 ... President Len Ranson called the meeting to order... We had $473.31 in checking. Fourteen officials had a score of 90 plus. Jim Schneekloth scored a 99. Don Tune was the guest speaker at the spring dinner. The class of 1979 was Mike Hotka, Gary Howard, Dennis Neverman, Greg Reed, Dennis Smeltzer and Richard Wheeler. Bill Brousard reported on the threeyear membership program. Tom Pumroy as President, Jim Patterson, vice-president, Rick Koolbeck, Treasurer and Pinky Primrose, Permanent Secretary. It was moved by Randy Krejci that a $1.00 fine would be assessed to late membership.

15 YEARS AGO: Meeting was called to order by President John Ferguson. Balance on hand was $1,047.48. Jefferson was slow on paying officials, A letter to Don Hepker to improve payment to officials was sent. Top score was Ray Kluever 98%. Nine officials scored 90 plus. Ev Petersen and Al Gremm received 10-year awards. Full membership went to Steve Fish, Dan Moore, Charlie Stumpff and Terry Turner. Shawn Kimball was approved as a transfer official. Ron Summers was elected President, John Pierce, Vice-president, Randy Krejci as Treasure, Pinky Primrose as Executive Secretary. A discussion took place on the morale of the association. Several topics were discussed: Meeting attendance, jealousy among groups, new officials requirements, tougher requirements and an all-day session.

10 YEARS AGO: April 3, 1989... President Petersen called the meeting to order, 39 officials were in attendance. Checking account had $1,876.70. Dale Carteson was hit by a fan In Central City. John Lowry Is a member of the advisory committee to Boone. Larry Palmer became President, Jerry Winter, Vice-president. Full status was given to Terry Broke, Gerald Kadlec, Rick Miller, Boyd Severson, Brian Spensley, Eric Stenberg and Dan Wulff. Transfers were Jerry Bunge, Jeff Freese, Mike Messerole, Paul Schuetz and Tony Smits. Lanny Peterson received honorary status.

5 YEARS AGO: March 21, 1994 ... President Harry Brown called the meeting to order. The Association had $1,137.47 in checking and $146.18 in savings. Brandon Beaudry had the high test score with a 94. John Campbell was the featured banquet speaker. Len Benhart was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Basketball Official. Gordy Kennedy, David Stamy, Dick Steinke were approved for full membership. Transfers were approved: David Bruns, Dan Colbert, John Jasper, Troy Karr, Jim Kiwala, Bill Poch.

Deaths of John Ferguson and Harris Lamb: Two former Presidents of CRAOA have passed away in the past months--John Ferguson and Harris Lamb.
